Title: Using the Video In/out unit of 3500TV w/ ot. cards
Post by masihumma on 07.01.04 at 13:56:22
I'm upgrading my CPU(P3 450Mhz-->P3 650Mhz) and also became interested in upgrading my Voodoo3 3500 TV(since I'd like to play other games than Half-life based) to a radeon 9200SE. The only problem is that I really do like the Video In/Out unit. So what I'd like to know is that if it is possible to use the Unit with another Graphics Card that has a DVI connector(or is the connector on the VIVO unit DVI?). If it is possible then I'm gonna be very happy, but if not then I'm going to have to invest into a radeon with AIW capabilities and that's going to cost a lot.

Ps. And if any of you are wondering why I love the "UFO" so much, it is because I use it to make my VHS Movies into DVDs(as I now own a DVD-burning Teac drive   :o).

I'm not getting a processor running at a higher speed for 2 reasons: first of all I'm running at 100Mhz FSB so Its practically impossible to find a P3 higher than 700Mhz running at 100FSB. And secondly I do not have the money to buy new mobo+processor+DDR+GFX Card.

has nothing to do with dvi, you have a tv-s in and out...the radeon 9200se hasn't got a video input. but it should have at least a tv-out.
if you want to make use of tv-in connections, buy a radeon 9000 all-in-wonder. shouldn't be more expensive than 80€. with the video in/out unit, have a try, it should work. but i would say it's better to try on a friend's card first before buying one by your own.
hint: radeon 9200se is very slow, buy no se-varations.

Yeah, I tried the connector on to a DVI Cnector and it didn't fit, in fact after I sat down and thought about it, It could not have worked, because DVI is an Out. But the thing is that I think that I am going to stick with this Voodoo3 till I can find a used R7500/8500 AIW, because the 9000 AIW costs ~160e here in Finland and thats a bit too much for me. And any way, a radeon 7500 would be a bit more balanced choise for my system, since I have:
Abit Be-6
256Mt SDRam
P3 450Mhz@100Mhz FSB
40Gb HDD

PS. The R9200 is indeed pretty slow, since its an SE, but it would be fast enough for me :). The thing I'm actually looking for from a new video card is support for T&L and a bit more power and memory, just so that I could run(and just run, they dont have to play smooth) games like BF1942, CoD, Mohaa and so on.

Forget about running CoD with a 450cpu, min specs is a 700mhz.  Prolly pushing it with MoHAA too.....  ;)
