Gamma Correction...
08.06.04 at 20:12:47

Hi there guys.
I´m having trouble to make gamma correction to work in D3D/OpenGl/Glide games...
I try to use it via 3DFX Hub in 3DFX Color.
I change for instance Glide/OpenGL to 2.0 gamma settings, but i have no changes under any API, and the image is to dark.
So 3DFX Color is not working.
Also in 3DFX Hub/3DFX Advance Settings/General, i have no Via Chipset options, what can i edict to make it apear?
O.K., what i whant is a simple way to edict and correct this under regedit.
Can anyone help me with this plzzzzz.
I´m ussing:

Athlon XP 2000+
Asus A7V333
Voodoo 5 5500 AGP
Win98SE
DX9.0b
Oficial 3DFX 1.04.00 Drivers.

Thanks in advance.

Hey patience, thanks for replying.
The Tools from 1.04.00, are the last ones, 2.6.1.110.
I´m prety sure that everything is installed right.
I dont have any other program to control the gamma or the colors.
It´s really strange because i already found the entry to activated the Via chipset, i turn it on and some time later this value disapear again in 3DFX tolls/advance feactures/General.
The value that i found is in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Display\0000\DEFAULT\
VIA Chipset

I have a entry named disable and it have the value of 2.
When i change it to 0 the via Chipset will be activated in  3DFX tolls/advance feactures/General, but about 5 minutes later it will disapear, or if i reboot.

Thanks.

I have the same issue with the VIA setting, it doesnt appear, and I'm using the 1.04.01b drivers.
The strange thing is that i DO HAVE A VIA BASED CHIPSET MOTHERBOARD, so.. whats the point of that setting if VIA mobo users can't see it?  Grin
But anyway, if it doesn't show, im pretty sure there is a reason to, unless its a bug.  Undecided

Regarding your gamma problems, first of all, adjust the brigthness of your monitor, it sounds silly, but do it. First set the gamma settings on your voodoo drivers to default values, then adjust monitor brigthness to a decent bright intensity until you see mostly everything well. Should be THEN and only then, when you should start using the gamma controls on driver for minor tweaking of brightness.

If you still have problems with gamma and glide/openGL games and as you seem familiar with registry, try creating a registry string value on your "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Display\0000\Glide" called FX_GLIDE_USE_APP_GAMMA and give it a value of "0" (a string value not a number!).
This will make your drivers to handle gamma differently on glide/opengl based games, and who knows, maybe it solves something..

Hope this helps
