Found this on www.guru3d.com
Quote: Well, don't you ever say we stopped supporting 3dfx fans ! For the few of you still running them cool Voodoo boards (yes I still have a couple of them), we can offer you new 3dfx Voodoo 3/4/5 alpha 9 SFFT drivers. Heh .. SFFT is not a technical term, no it's the makers -> SuperFurryFurryThing :) These drivers are Windows 2000/XP compatible and I've recompressed the archive towards 1,7 MB. The archive has both Windows 2000/XP drivers for 3dfx Voodoo 3, 4 and 5 graphics cards. Before driver installation and running tests, we suggest to provide to a optimal hardware configuration: of course you would install latest driver for motherboard chip-set and Service Pack for Operative System, restore default frequency values for possible overclocked components like cpu and/or ram and/or main system bus or AGP/PCI bus. Besides, we suggest to update Microsoft DirectX to 9.0b version before driver setup. End Quote. Who are these guys? Are these drivers really new or just rehashed? |

WHY? Why do you hold your system back with a Voodoo 5 5500 AGP? I'd understand if you had a weaker system, but you don't. If you had a Voodoo 5 5500 PCI, all the power to you, but you have quite a powerful system and yet you hold it back with the doodoo. What voodoo users need now is support. SLI support under/in linux and that's about it. |

hmm, well i guess cause i really enjoy trying to get the most performance while still using my v5500 agp card, i have no idea why i enjoy this so much, but to me its lots of fun, i have a 63 ford truck even though i could get a new one, same reason i guess, sometimes you just like something and want to keep it going(very, very sorry for off topic here) and soon this card will be going over sea's for a try at a ram change, its a hobby i think most of us here enjoy and with the help of people with skill's in these different area's we get the hope of a few more fps or a new game we might be able to play, i want to thank everyone who has given there time to keep the 3dfx ball rolling :-*

lol, a vehicle, I understand, but a video, come on. It's not like the roads get more challenging that our vehicles need to be able to handle tougher roads, etc. That's sort of the case with video cards.
The only card I have on me is my Voodoo 5 5500AGP, and I wish I could use it, but AGP issues prevent this. And I really don't feel like forking out ~$60 for a PCI version. Anyways, I understand your point of view, but I hope you can see mine as well... |

As I am a bit of a pc game collector, I currently have approx. 100 pc game titles in my collection, 45 of these are installed on my voodoo 5500 system and 25 or so on my Banshee system, the remainder are newer games used with my 9800 pro ;).
I also personally enjoy acquiring and playing some of the great older retro games at greatly reduced prices from my local computer stores ;D Any person(s) who have the knowledge/skills to incorporate new features/compatibility/performance into 3dfx drivers is greatly appreciated by me, I really like the TAA implementation into Mesafx by Daniel Borca 8) Better late than never ;) |

yes i see your point, its just about what makes you happy, makes me happy to use my v5500 and if i had the money i would have a v6000 instead, for some people its being able to play the latest games at high everything, this is what makes the world go round, i can only hope everyone else gives up on 3dfx stuff so i can get it on the cheap ;D

Yes, we see your point and understand where you are coming from. However, you opinion is not warranted here. You know the people who post on this forum come here to rally support for the 3dfx legacy, yet you still persist in putting a "downer" on things and tell us we are wasting our time. As I said, I can understand and respect your views, but when you continue to persist in showing your opinions here (when they aren't shared among other users) then I don't see the point of them. From what I've read in other forums, Lecram25, is that you're a bit of a pessimist when it comes to 3dfx, and others have this opinion of you. I totally agree with VDX on this one. If I was loaded with cash, I would go out and buy 2 GeForce6800 Ultra's SLI'd or an X800 XT, and buy all the latest games. But, I'm not filthy rich. I'm well off, but like to spend my money on other stuff and spread it out on things I like. Going back to old retro games I didn't have time to play a couple of years back when I was first starting college, is nice because it's nostalgic to experience playing games with the old 3dfx stuff. It's cheap and I enjoy it. Frankly, I'm more than happy with that. So what's the problem? |
