If I recall correctly, they originally had the Idea of a Mach 3+ dogfight.

It was not until they realized this Aircraft had a turn circle of no less than like ~110 nautical miles (!) at maximum speed, that this wicked Idea was abandoned Grin

Crazy people they were back in those days *g*

That would be one hell of a dogfight. With the entire earth surface as playground  Grin

I was always of the opinion that the weapons side of the Blackbird program was a ruse to hide it's true calling-

The worlds fastest spyplane.

To this day a Blackbird has never been lost to enemy action, not once. By the time you know one is in the area, it's already to late to do anything about it Wink

The Blackbird was one of the first aircraft to have some stealth features, I would have to pull the book I have on them off the shelf and check the details again though.

I know the paint on the craft has some stealth aspect to it, there was something else though.

yes there was indeed something else, The blackbird and YF-12 planes had triangular weges in side sloped parts of the hull as on the top side as bottom side. they are very well vissable on the modil kit version of this plane as well, my model is 1.72 scale SR-71 A Blackbird with the yellow NASA stickers on the tail fins.

and here some flower power!
