Title: Hammerhead FX Drivers Needed Post by janskjaer on 23.12.03 at 17:51:20
Hello again,
I have a 3dfx/InterAct Hammerhead FX (SV-262) Gamepad, which only supplies drivers for Win95/98. :( It's proving a difficult task to find drivers for Win2000, let alone WinXP! >:( Can someone help me out in finding these drivers? I mean, it is a 3dfx product after all, so I think it is only fair to be discussed in this forum. Much appreciated! :) Janskjaer. |

Since I got one of those myself, I managed to Download a Driver supposedly for Win2000/WinXP.
Only for the USB Variant, though.... Is your's USB ? (because mine is a classic GamePort variant, so I can't test it :-/ ) ---- edit ---- Found other Links (Win9x only) : http://www.speed-link.com/driver.php?lang=de&prod_num=SV-262 Hammerhead FX Pad (also Win2000/XP) http://www.speed-link.com/driver.php?lang=de&prod_num=SV-6565 I'll upload all those in a few hours to the Archive :) |

AFAIK, there is no USB version, hence the batteries needed...the hammerhead was the first gamepad with vibration, if only they had a USB version, then there wouldn't be a need for the batteries and the drivers would be better...

Hm, I was also surprised to see an USB Driver, but I don't have many Info's about the Hammerhead and its Variants (?)
I'll have to check this Driver out some more then... |

Now would that adapter provide the neccessary power required so that one can get rid of the batteries?

I have never seen the USB version. Did that come with a battery holder? If not, then yes, the power from the USB port for the Force Feedback would be adequate. :)

Sadly, no. :'( Mine is also the DB15 connector. I have heard a lot about this XP driver for the USB variant, sadly, none for our gamepad. I found one updated patch, but it didn't say nothing about supporting XP. Although it installed on my XP machine, the driver did not do the job. The problem is, in XP it always say's 'Not Connected' when you port the gamepad to the PC and try to set it up. |

Hm, when I created the HammerheadFX Section, I stumbled across alot of undefined and 'fishy' Information...
It seems the classic Version of the HammerheadFX was the 15 pin Gameport Variant, but there seems to be later Versions with USB. Technically, the HammerheadFX apparently evolved from SV-262A upto SV-262F (moving to USB at one point), but little to no Information is available on the Web :-/ All Images found about the Hammerhead always show similar/identical Hardware, yet under slightly different name (FX, FX Pad, SV-262, SV-6565) and even varying description *arg* The fact, that the official Product name/owner changed from 3dfx to Interact at one point in time doesn't quite help either. Maybe Archive.org has some "original" Info's about it on one of the archived 3dfx.com Product Pages.... |

From what I've heard on a few forums, SV-262E is the DB15 (Gameport) version, SV-262F is the USB version. It's a shame InterAct are not around to confirm this.
It may be true, it may be not. :( Try these: http://www.windowsxp-drivers.com/drivers/86/86061.htm I can't try them yet because I'm at work (using Win2000 and I don't have the gamepad with me). Let me know how you get on. I'll give 'em a whirl tonight if I get time. |

If you could also try the 2 3rd party Drivers I already have online (I suspect they are identical or very similar to your Link), would be great to know how useful they are.
I even have a 3rd one (not online yet), which might do the same... (seems there are alot of "inf mods" out there for XP, all using more or less the same Core Drivers, but different modifications to the inf ) |

There are a lot of "inf" mods! So not usually shipped with any documentation.
I will try and give the 3rd party drivers a test, also. |

After testing numerous drivers on the DB-15 version, nothing worked!! :'(
We'll have to face it that this gamepad will simply not work with XP! I will give it a try with Win2000 once I get a spare machine to install it on, but don't get your hopes up! Sorry guys! :-[ |

As an owner of a brand new (when I got it) retail Hammerhead FX SV-262 (No letter) and having browsed the http://www.interact-acc.com site (before it was taken down) I can say with certainty that there were both DB15 (GP) and USB variants even of the classic no letter variety, it seems the only people who have GP versions have the no letter first release and later releases (even A) are USB based. I haven't been the interact's site recently (since they crashed it) but that is what I remember "straight from the horse's mouth".
