Title: 3dfxcmn.dll error Post by richsuf on 27.02.04 at 07:45:21
:-/
I had to replace my 3dfx V5 5500 agp card because of incompatibility reasons with newer games, but now I'm getting a consistent "3dfxcmn.dll module is missing" error popping up at bootup with my winxp pro sp1 machine. If I re-install 3dfx tools, even with my Radeon 8500, the error goes away but when tools is uninstalled the error comes back. This happened even with the V5 card installed. I used Amigamerlin 2.5 drivers before and found they worked the best. Does anyone know how I can prevent this error? TIA |

About the loading error I shall add :
Might be the 3dfx .dll is still present (even after uninstall of 3dfx Tools) in the Registry. Just search it and remove all remaining 3dfx entries (if present), this should solve the Problem. |

:D
Indeed Falcon that fixed it! Many thanks! And thanks to all the other administrators for at least "trying" to keep their mind on the topic... ;D Oh, and my beloved V5 has found a verrrry comfortable home in my PIII 1000MHz Win98SE machine. In fact, its running faster frame rates for GTA Vice City than it was in my XP machine....I wouldn't get rid of that card for any money...well, almost. |

UUGGHH..... Once again, the dreaded 3dfxcmn.dll feature is rearing its error interface! It worked for a few days but now its back like cancer. I have deleted every known 3dfx entry in my registry and system files...and still I succumb. I have discovered that the registry entry is somehow being created after its deleted! How can this be? ??? |

try using driver cleaner 2.7 to get rid of the old 3dfx entries. Not all the entries were named "3dfx", some have to do with voodoo, others glide, and others are completely boggling as to how you should know. You might have to reinstall your radeon's drivers afterwards, though, I'm not sure.

Just FYI, Driver Cleaner 2.7 will do the same thing, without the "risk" of messing up the registry (even though it's good to back it up anyways)
