Did anyone here try the 4.9 beta drivers with the doom3 hotfix? did they yeild better performance?

i'm asking cause i see alot of people on different forums with dx9 ati boards who get amazing speed ups by using the 4.9 drivers, but my radeon 8500 actually got a performance penalty by using 4.9 compared to 4.8 final..

You're better off trying the inofficial ATI Shader Patch :

Performance gains I observed were quite impressive, much higher than this Doom3 Cat4.9beta...

Just did the mod to the file this morning, no increase in performance while running ATI 04.5 drivers.

32 fps before and after, my 128 megs of video ram maybe playing a larger factor since I'm running in high quality mode 800 x 600 2x AA

I have been running  Cat. 4.8 since being released, I did'nt want to install the entire 4.9 beta driver so I just put the ati gl driver in my doom3 folder, I got a 1-1/2 fps increase which was nothing compared to the 8 fps increase after doing the shader modification.

I have gained 4-5 more fps in Timedemo... So it can be worht to try it  Wink

For me it became very playable in 1280x1024 even, I'd say I got 25-30% out of it.

Beware that (just remembered) I combined the Shader Patch with all of the other Tweaks listed in the Thread. Some of that certainly did their part I guess.

I have a finely tweaked DOOM 3 CFG file, plus the shader patch (I posted the link - somewhere?)
AND the CAT 4.9b drivers! Grin

I got a nice 3-5fps jump after the tweaks! 8)

FPS jumped from 32 to 35 on my PC.
