*ugh*

Do you have a :
Voodoo3 3000
or
Velocity 100 ?

The Velocity might work with the Voodoo3 Drivers, but requires a Registry hack to enable the 2nd TMU. Of course, the Velocity 100 still only has 8MB, compared to the 16MB of the Voodoo3...

He might be confused as to thinking both these cards are the same. ;)

This is proabably due to the fact, of other topics being posted on this forum in the past few weeks. ::)

Ahem...

Do we have a Velocity 100 driver for Windows XP?

I recieved my fully retail boxed Velocity 100 two days ago and would like to give it a quick benchmark, but I only have an XP rig available and can't be bothered to set up another right now.

Hm, you'd have to scan through the ReadMe Files.

I'm not sure if the Vendor ID of the Velocity was added to some, but technically, the Voodoo3 Win2k/XP 3rd Party Drivers should work on it.
(the Registry Fix to enable the 2nd TMU of the Velocity likely has to be manually done, however)

But since so few Users run a Velocity, I haven't heard practical Results so far under WinXP.

Do we have any steps to alter the registry in order to activate the second TMU?

I have not performed this action before.

Found here :

Velocity Registy hack to enable the 2nd TMU :

Description

3dfx sold the Velocity 100 as a low budget card to OEM. The chip is exactly a Voodoo 3 with a different marking on top to hide it's real nature. So in fact the Velocity 100 has the same 2 TMUs as the Voodoo 3 but only one is activated.

Solution

Open the Registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet\Services\Class\Display\0000\Glide\

Add string value:
"FX_GLIDE_NUM_TMU"

Set value:
"2"

Sometimes the Registry value 0000 differs a bit. Search for 0001, 0002, ... instead.

Thanks for the reg tip, FF. :)

I will try this next weekend (Sorry, rather busy this weekend  :-[ got a lot of uni stuff on, and the girlfriend's round for the holidays) and I will report my findings and let you know how I get on with setting the Velocity up in the XP rig with the V3 drivers.

Okidok, beware though that the exact location of the Registry Base Dir might be different under WinXP (I reckon the RegTweak was originally meant for Win9x).

Just search for it with RegEdit, and place the Tweak in the appropriate position if found different from the intended original Location :)

Hello again! :)

I've installed my Velocity 100 in my KT266 XP rig.

I had to revert the AGP speed back to 2x in order to get the card to power up. For some reason, auto would not work.  It had to be directly set to 2x.  :-/

Anyways, I tried locating the registry path given to me (thanks FalconFly ;)) but unfortunately, such a path doesn't exist. :(
However, I did install the AmigaSport 3.0 drivers. Would a different driver create a different registry path?  ???

Installed the drivers and no problems! No need to activate the 2nd TMU (unless it's done it automatically).

The closest registry path I found was:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\3dfxvs\Device0\Glide\

I added the 'FX_GLIDE_NUM_TMU' value here, but does not seem to make a difference.

The 2D aspect of the card works fine, however what could I use to better test the 3D aspect of the card?
So I know that the 2nd TMU is enabled successfully? ???

Unfortunately not. :(

Adding this reg key has not enabled me to run full-screen 3D applications.

I can run simple windowed OpenGL apps that I did at University, but I cannot run full-screen apps.

I tried MOHAA demo and before the app launches in full-screen mode, a message popup box appears, titled 'Error' but with no text or error message, and a simple OK button.  Really helpful!  >:(

The same thing happens when trying to run the simple 3dfx glide demos from FalconFly's archive (believe me, these work on XP with other 3dfx cards, I've used them. :))

I wonder if the reg key is in the correct location?  :-/

If you're not sure about the Location, simply locate the already existing/used Registry Keys, and then add your's to it...

That way, it will undoubtedly be activated.
