Well-made political Satire is usually among the best and we have an excellent culture of picking on all that deserve some - that's mostly outselfes for good reasons.

Bear that in mind if I post something scathing related to German politics eh? All in good humor.

Go ahead, but Satire is never about personal revenge or supression of free speech (which is your clear intent to prevent the nasty stitches it could create).

...nor does it care much about history - it's usually about now and today.

I understand though, living in your country today and facing Satire isn't exactly easy entertainment while you might be still trying to 'hold up the flag'.

Off-Topic :
Funny in another way, the US Military in Bagdad just presented a supposedly Iranian Mortar shell they found in Iraq, as proof of Iranian involvement as a weapons supplier.

Looking at the 'evidence', however, the professional audience sees a poorly repainted and masked (Fuse, Tail & Gasket covered) US Army M72 HE shell.

I fully understand you're not fond of discussing politics in those days, but everyone has to wake up and see reality eventually.

For the record I have no problem with satire, indeed that is the direction my humor tends to run. My clear intent is to keep the humor clean- Humor related to politics rarely is and with a biased media less so than 20 years ago.

It has nothing to do with "holding up the flag" there is no shortage of elected officials I could make fun of.

Two things you never discuss in public- Politics or religion, unless you are looking for an argument.

If you never discuss Religion in public, you will never get to see the other Side (except what you're told about it).

If you never discuss Politics in public... guess what, you'll never see the other Side (again, except what you're told about it).

IMHO that's like living in a self-created, mental Prison. I know of nothing more dangous for the own mind than doing something like that. Doing so can transform peaceful, good men into monsters (which - not knowing any better - strongly believe in their right doing)

-----------

All that is more than enough material for its own Thread - likely a whole Forum.

The are time and places for such discussions- In a public forum with members from many diverse nations looking to post "satire" as humor isn't one of them.

I beg to differ...

The International character is the finest prerequisite for Satire.

Who else could hold a Mirror in my face, than someone outside my own country (being spectators with the best overview and the least direct/emotional affection) ?

We all need those Mirrors, otherwise we'd all just cook dinner among ourselfes and could never understand when others give us unexpected reactions for what we do.

Anything else would be like... Isolation.

And an odd thing occured to me :
Your Avatar came into place when Denmark was under political pressure because of : A Satire...
Why support it here while at the same time you try to avoid it ?

No offense, but I think it's because Satire is a two-way road and you just don't like the other lane these days...

Not at all- How do you know what is being satired is true?

I do look at news sources outside the US as well as within, you don't think they are not slanted to what the publisher wants to push? I see it all the time.

Because good Satire is evident by nature - it doesn't reflect distinct proof, but rather shows (in its own way) what is in the heads of a majority of people by definition.

Proof is usually delivered by the involved parties all by themselfes, whether they want it or not.

Indeed the Press is reflecting certain points of view (or targets specific goals), that's why it's good to look at the big picture anyday.
(and even that needs to have a common-sense and a knowledge/experience Filter applied to it)

An assumption with perhaps no factual basis you are saying.

You are aware in a recent poll that the press in Washington DC indentified itself as 79%-82% liberal?

If you have a media that identifies itself as "liberal" do you think the people reporting the news are not going to be shaping the news to thier worldview?

Gary do remind this is Europe, and what happens in WDC/ USA really has little effect on what happens over here Wink

And it may sound a little harsh but most europeans rather stick to their own lands/countires, laws, politcials rules on how they evolve and so on.

So it comes from both ways and yes things may collide, jokes about the politics can be be funny in many ways.

Just don't haul the old cows out of the creek, it's not worth it.

I think you taking things far too serious here Roll Eyes , chill down a bit please Wink

@Gary

Maybe you should read the definition of Satire first.

And proof/fact... There's tons of it - literally.
So much is added almost every day, it sorta jumps in your face every once a while. So much, I couldn't ignore it even if I wanted to.

"liberal" ... "republic"... These words have no meaning in the free world, they only come from a mental prison created over the last decades in a highly confined region of the planet.
Welcome to the century of applied Information Warfare.

I choose other synonyms : "Realistic", "Critical", "Democratic" (in its original sense)
-------------
I detected a similar notion in my own Country, however. It isn't as extreme, but it's slowly headed a similar way.
That's one more important reason to double- and triple-check whatever News Outlet is publishing, regardless of their agenda.

Can I or will I stop any of this? Certainly not...
BUT, for as long as my mind is able to defeat the attempts to polarize (in whatever direction), I shall call it truly free and discuss it in public.

What happens if the minds of an entire population are polarized to a specific agenda, is very well documented by history.

"Although satire is usually witty, and often very funny, the purpose of satire is not primarily humour but criticism of an event, an individual or a group in a clever manner."

They have no meaning to some- But then again there are people who have no concept of the word "honor" either.

Most people are not aware of that fact, hence my support of Denmark.

There is a growing cancer in the world, by the time people wake up it might be too late.
