Well finally could afford my case and power supply so I finally got my new machine put together. Because of finances, I did have to cancel my order for the X3870x2 but I did get a Saphire Toxic 3870 with Vapor-X cooling so that'll work.

Here's the 3DMark '06 scores between my old AMD 3200+ Barton core, 2 gig's of ram and a X1950 Pro AGP card and the new AMD Phenom 9550 Quad Core with a X3870 card.

The AquaMark 3 bench went from a 45,901 score to a 88,799 score. With ATI Tool tray installed, I'm getting on average of 107 fps with setting set to high and res of 1152x864 in FarCry compared to average of about 33 with the same settings with my old box.

Just wanted to post it. Had to tell someone I got it going.   :P

yeah,not bad..but I think its still to early for quadcores.

Your probably right ps47, but considering I've got child support payments coming up soon, this thing will have to last for a good couple of years so by that time who knows. It's good for now though.  :)

What MoBo you got? Does it belongs to the "spider" system, like phenom and ati hd3xx0 series do.

You should be 'carefull' when measuring performance with Aquamark 3 as  the benchmark needs a fast CPU to get decent scores. For example; my system with X1950Pro exceeds 100.000 points while your system - with much faster GPU - scores around 88k / 89k.

Anyhow, nice system :P. You should only add a Voodoo2 for some serious gaming  ;D

Gigabyte MA790X-DS4,its in the signature.if you are getting a new am2 board,the latest amd chipsets should be your first choice.in fact,they should be your only choice ;D

Thanks Thandor, Mansfield I'm running everything AMD. CPU, chipset and video card. The Vaper chill 3870 OC's like mad though. Went from 800 to to a stable 870 core and mem from 1154 to 1270. Not a bad boost in performance.

AMD's all products are cool especially video cards. but AMD's CPUs are nowadays slower compare to intel's  :'(

This is true, but everything goes in circles. I've used AMD since I got my first 300mhz machine and have stuck with them since. Competition is good and just because one is always going to be faster then the other, regardless if it's AMD or Intel, I will support who I like until the door is closed and chips are no more.

Just my opinion though. Both companies have their pro's and con's it's just who I like.
