Asus A7V rev 1.02 problems ????
22.02.10 at 19:47:30

I have just built a retro rig, with, an Asus A7V mobo -rev 1.02,I have 1GB of PC133 SDram in it,a voodoo3 16mb agp card,a 60GB HD,an AMD ATHLON 2000+XP cpu,a vortex sound card, dual booting with Win 98 and XP,I am looking to tri-boot it with Win 95 as well, but,XP is backwards compatible,so,I might not bother
The problem I am having IS,my cpu, according to cpuworld, should be running at 1.67ghz,when I check 'System' in the control panel,it says its a Duron, running at 1.25ghz,I swapped cpu's,I put in an Athlon 1800x,it said a similar thing,it was a Duron running at 1.15 ghz
WHY??? is this, can anyone help me
I've looked online, can't seem to find anything out

Do I need to update the BIOS,that WAS my first though btw

Any help here guys would be appreciated
Cheers

12,5 * 133 = 1667
12,5 * 100 = 1250
I think (and a random review from the net confirms this), that this mobo doesn't support 133 MHz fsb.

Confirmed: http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=A7V%28M...

the fastest you can run is an Athlon 1400 @ 200MHz on an ASUS A7V

Should be pretty cheap to get  slightly better board to support your CPUs.

Thanks Razrx
I can live with that for now, like I say mate,it's just an old retro rig, doesn't really matter what cpu speed I get,as long as I can get to play a few oldies
I was just a bit confused as to why I had an Athlon 2000xp+ running at 1.25ghz,when, it should be running at 1.67ghz,you've answered my initial query,I'm forever grateful
Thanks a lot guys

Here are a few pics of my retro rig, this is still work in progress,I need to add an Iomega zip drive,a cd-rw,a superfloppy drive,a sound card, wireless receiver, a couple of multicoloured led fans and generally tidy up the cables, probably go and get an AMD Duron 1400 for it as well etc
It's just been thrown together for the moment,to test out the V5 5500 AGP card I've just bought  Smiley
As you can see,she lives Cheesy

It's an Asus A7V Mobo
1GB of PC133 sdram
Athlon 2000+ cpu (running at 1.25ghz  Sad )
60GB Hard drive
Voodoo5 5500 AGP card
Jeantech light fusion case
Windows 98 and XP
Should be OK to play a few old classics on  Grin

sounds like a decent rig.  BTW, what is a superfloppydrive?  I've never heard of one before.

It's basically the same as a normal  floppy drive  Wink,it uses 120MB discs rather than the 1.44 MB ones, though it can read the old 1.44 discs as well

What information shows up on the front LCD display?

It gives the temperature readouts of the cpu, hard drive and case interior,it has 3 sensor cables inside to place on the components, quite nifty really  Smiley
It also has the time and date and alarm built in  Smiley

Don't bother with the ZIP drive - they suck donkey BO!!OCKS... Roll Eyes

Front USB would be more useful... Smiley
(I'm assuming the case has that already at the base though)

Also, LED fans eat lots of amps - be sure the PSU is beefy (or get dynamo fans, which power the LEDs from spinning power) Wink

I've already taken the zip drive out, decided against it,got a 400 watt psu for it,that should be enough I think Smiley
She's starting to take shape nicely, will have it done and dusted tomorrow, hopefully Cheesy

Well she's all up and running now,I had to install windows 2000 instead of Win98,  as my 98 disk is knackered,an I don't have a copy of 95 either, everything is installed,I decided against the zip drive as it was a waste of time, I never had any disks for it anyway Smiley
The only thing I have to do now is change the cpu,I have an Athlon xp 1800+ in it atm,not the 2000+,I've got a Duron 1400 on order as I type  Wink
I've tidied the cables as much as I could, bit difficult with so many wires and sensors inside it
I have a couple of dvd roms in it,one which is a cd writer as well, they are hidden behind the 2 bottom opening plates,I tried to keep the front as uniform as possible, but I had to put the superfloppy in as I only had one of the smaller blanking plates,I suppose I could always spray it silver so it looks a bit more uniform Cheesy
Anyway, here she is,the (almost) finished article  Smiley

Why a Duron 1400, it doesn't seem to be supported by your board? Try bios version 1.07 with your cpu's
Check the cpu numbers very carefully some are very similar between bus speed versions 266mhz and 333mhz ect
