Fans on the V5....
08.09.06 at 00:54:04

Ok, my card has the original fans on it, and it's what, 6/7 years old now? This is in a machine that I don't have a windowed case (even if it did, it's in a desk that I don't really have access to the window) but I'd like to replace the fans on it before they go out and I don't catch it right away and fry the thing. Any suggestions on what to replace them with and the best way to get the original fans off of it? Other question is, is there some heatsinks that are large enough to work without the fans so this isn't an issue at all? Just wondering on what would be best and what opinions are on this.

hmmm for a heat sink sollution that would be the best thing to do

Zalman makes nice Heatsinks, but you could also use 2 Voodoo3 3000 AGP/PCI HeatSinks for your 5500 , no prob there since TM30 has done that Smiley

Nice sollution to the problem, where would you get those at though, don't have two v3's to cannibalize. I've only got one and I'm not touching that one (V3 that is). He hasn't had any problems with it all? I'm going to be using this quit a bit since I got it back going again.

I have to admit, it looks like it's more of a card then it is though, more.... I don't know... more of an ubber card then the little fans that are on it.   Grin

well Jan there are enough V3 AGP's on ebay from where you vcan get the coolers from Smiley Just stay low in prices and get 'em cheapo Smiley

There are other things you could experiment with Smiley Thermaltake Blorbs aka Blue Orbs, if they are too noisy you could use Orange Orbs also or crystal orbs:
...  ...

use Tie Wraps to mount the orbs:
...

and for the other pin use one of the added pop rivvits for the mounting hole:
...

make sure you file edges of the cooler's them selves so the capacitors won't toutch the heatsinks of the orb it's self Smiley
...

The finnished result from top of your Voodoo5:
...

and from side:
...

if orbs ain't your thing you could give Water cooling a shot Smiley
... ... ... ... ...

this is also an a way of do'n a water mod:
...

and if water is way too wet Roll Eyes then there is are some modded idea's ha!

And if that's too messy there is always the good ole Tenmax Voodoo3 coolers Smiley

Think I'm going to V3 route. Had a couple of things pop up, so won't be doing this for about another 2 weeks, but that's kind of what I'm planning on doing. I don't have to worry about the fans that way then.

Hi

I found these year ago, and they are  exactly same design as originals but 10mm high (originals 5mm high)
