IP Ver 4 cut off date June 2011...
15.02.11 at 17:48:52

With IP addresses all but used up for the most part and with a cut over to IP Ver 6 in June for most ISP's, I'm assuming that anything that can't handle IP Ver 6 (Win 95, 98, ME, NT - maybe Win 2k) won't have access to the internet after that since they only use IP ver 4.

I'm sure they'll have some legacy networks around for this specific reason however how much longer would those networks be around though?

Anyone else read up on that at all? Just kind of curious if anyone has heard anything specific on it at all.

I cant see the internet being switched off for IPv4 users on June 6th. There is most likely some Network Translation Protocols or  Ipv4 to IPv6 Gateways.

There are no new addresses available to be given out. This means that existing addresses continue to exist (=practically the whole world) and that providers still 'bought' addresses that they can give out.

For the transition and old non-IPv6 capable devices: usually your PC works in it's own network with a router attached to the Internet connection. The router is most likely able to provide IPv4 addresses on the inside (for your PC's) and able to use IPv6 on the outside for the connection to the world. This way the router will translate the connection just like it does now with IPv4 on inside and outside, but in the new situation IPv4 on the inside and IPv6 on the outside.

Thandor, good point, didn't look at it like that.

I was more or less curious to hear if you guys heard about it so I thought I would bring it up.

From what I understand IPv6 is mainly being rolled out in Asia first.
