Need For Speed Underground 2

Trying to play the demo. Everything works fine but I get the above when I've started a race (or free roam).
Any solutions?
(BTW, I'm basically a purist so I don't have any experience with MesaFX or the likes (yet))
Oops, forgot my specs:
ASUS P4S533 (SiS 645DX)
Intel Pentium 4 2,26GHz
2x 256MB PC2700 DDR-SDRAM
120GB 7200RPM HDD
3dfx Voodoo 5 5500 AGP
WindowsXP Professional + SP1
AmigaMerlin 3.0XP

To start with....MesaFX only works for OpenGL. I remember my brother playing this game and I think it was a dx game (d3d). So using MesaFX is impossible. Maybe you can try Amigamerlin 3.1R1 instead of 3.0 The driver operates on a totally different core (SFFT core) So I would recommand trying the new Amigamerlin.

I am not trying the new AmigaMerlin drivers. SFFT gave me problems (reboots) with another program I use. If that problem is also present in the new AmigaMerlin drivers they're useless to me.

Hmm difficult then, have you tried these settings ? :

Maybe you can try to force 32 bbp (or have you tried that already?) It worked with Unreal 2 back then.

I always use the recommended settings for AM3.0XP.
Forcing 32bpp disallows me from running the game and forcing 16bpp doesn't change a thing.

I'd say use AmigaMerlin 3.1 R1 with MesaFX 6.2.0.2, they are wonder drivers to me.
They run actually everything even D3D games like UT 2004, HL2 and so on, so NFSUG2 should be playable.

MesaFX is for opengl, so unless you find a way to run the game in OpenGl you should forget about mesa. Just use AM3.1 or the latest SFFT. I think they already have it running in win2000 and AM3.1

I'm sorry but I got UT 2004 runn'n with the MesaFX 6.2.0.2 OpenGL32.dll file in OpenGL mode and with out the Opengl32.dll UT 2004 did not run.
I placed the 6.2.0.2 Opengl32.dll file in the ut 2004 system folder, and now ut2004 runs nicely at 800 x 600x 32 with all eye candy on and world and texture detail at high and the rest at normal settings no shadows with 57 frames per sec on my 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP with AXP 2700+, 1x 512MB PC-2700 and ASUS A7V333-R operating with Win2KPro + SP4 and Am 3.1 R1. and MesaFX 6.2.0.2 ofcorse, so I think it's possible with the NFS UG2 also.

You did not have a black screen. Your screen was simply dark. This is a known bug which can be fixed by turning off the 'light trails' option.
I (and I assume Evolver too) have a real black screen. There is no faint light of anything where you should see 3D being rendered.
