Getting the best out of my 5500 AGP/PCI
13.11.12 at 13:39:35

Hey guys,

at the moment I'm toying around with the rig that's in my signature and I was wondering about a few things.

As an OS I am using windows2000 pro with SP4. But what drivers are best for the 5500AGP/PCI??
And with those drivers, how can I get the absolute best visual quality in games?? what settings to watch out for??
I know a lot of settings will have to be done in the games themselves, but I'm talking strictly about the settings in windows / 3DFX tools etc etc (everything not ingame Smiley )

Thanks for any info.

thanks for the tips.

AA is kind of a given Smiley about the lod-bias I didn't know, so thanks for that. where can that setting be changed?? in 3DFX tools, or windows itself??

But in regards to AA, seeing as I have an AthlonXP 2.2Ghz powering the rig, should that speed up the 5500 enough to be able to handle 4 x AA with ease on normal resolutions??

and by latest 3dfx driver for win2k, do you mean the drivers made by 3dfx themselves or the 3rd party stuff like AmigaMerlin.

I've done a complete re-install of the OS Win2k, and then:

SP4
last 1.04 WHQL drivers
Carmageddon 2 @ FSAA 4X
Final Fantasy 7 @ FSAA 4X
UT99 @ 1280 x 1024 @ FSAA 4X
Diablo II + LOD Expansion pack

All runs smooth  and looks beautiful Smiley Tho my small 17" screen won't go any higher then 1280x1024, I am glad I'm finally rid of that 20" CRT, tho it could do some insane resolutions, the voodoo5 wouldn't be able to handle that, even with this rig.

Any games I should look out for that'll run on win2k?? And does the voodoo5 run dos games as well, or did that stop with earlier voodoos??
