Aureal and 3dfx had a lot in common. They both entered the market in the later 90s and introduced superb technology. Aureal and Creative were competing a lot like 3dfx did with Nvidia. Aureal's A3D was up against Creative's EAX. Both Aureal and 3dfx companies failed and were bought by their enemies in 2000.
Sadly, the Vortex was not remembered as much as the Voodoo.  Undecided

I agree with this statement.  That is why my V6K rig (2600A2) is packing a MX300 soundcard currently. Smiley (recently picked it up on eBay for $50 shipped complete with the box and everything) 

I remember seeing this box in the Best Buy/Circuit City ads and always wanting it but never got it. (I had just got my first computer and it already came w/ a SB Live!)  Now I have it and thats all that matters. Smiley
