Overclocking a 3500TV card
08.12.03 at 12:33:40

Hi

Has anybody experience of overclocking the above card to run MSTS Train-Sim more smoothly.  I am running Win98SE, P3 500ghz, 324mb Ram and plenty of H/D free.  Are the latest drivers for Win2000 usable or do I have to stick with the ones created in year 2000.

whohow, your machine's hardcore overclocked..  8)

well, you can't use win 2000 drivers for win 98se..anyway, you can wait till some will be released (i wouldn't expect that) or you can change to win 2000

as the avenger chip on your voodoo3 3500 has maximum official frequency, you should be very careful when overclocking..don't know a tool which can handle this job really safely, maybe somebody else can help. but i won't expect you're really able to overclock a voodoo3 3500 without adding a fan to the cooler on your card.

Micha

Thanks for the info, I think it's best for me to wait till after Xmas and upgrade the system with new motherboard, P4 or Athlon chip, memory and better Graphics card(128mb).

nevertheless, 3dfx rules!!  Wink

my choice:
-AMD CPU
-ATI graphics...better wait and see what the new S3 Deltachrome and XGI Volari chips can handle..

I overclocked my 3500 not long ago. Was able to get to 208mhz with one fan, rock stable no artifacts or anything.   Grin

The issue with your system is  the cpu. I run an Athlon 750mhz with the 3500 and there was no difference in benchmarks with overclocking the card up until I raised the resolution to 1024x768.
If you want to try anyway, all you need to do is get your hands on a socket 7 fan.
If you have a look at your 3500 heatsink, you'll notice it has a couple of small holes in it.  All you need to do is find a srew that will fit there snug to hold the fan in place on the 3500, srew it in (not too far otherwise you may scratch the PCB) and  Viola, job done nice and easy.  Wink
