Need help. Star Trek: Starship Creator in XP SP3?
23.03.12 at 04:09:49

I recently got a copy of Star Trek: Starship Creator, but it won't run in XP, not even to install it, the installer won't run in XP.  Is there a workaround, patch or fix?

Compatability mode?? You've probably already tried it but try again with a different one, it may work. If all else fails and the game require any special hardware(3D acceleration/3Dfx) the give it a try in VirtualPC under 98.

Quick question, is the game DOS by any chance?? If it is, it might not be liking XP (even though XP has reasonable DOS support)

Don't know enough about Virtual machine to try it, plus I'd need working drivers for my vid card, Nvidia Gerforce 4 TI 4200.

the error I get is:

"c:windows\system32\config.nt  The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.  Choose close to terminate the alllication."

then there are two buttons to choose from

close  ignore

not sure if it is DOS or WIN app but XP sure doesn't like it.

if I want to dual boot XP and Win98se, can I make a partition of my C: drive and then format the partition FAT32?  right now it is all one NTFS drive.

I think I remember this - it's just some stupid thing, xp moving the file for some reason, search your pc for config.nt file and copy it to c:windows\system32.

just looked for it on my C drive, and it wasn't found at all.  Had search look for hidden and system files too.  nothing,  Though, it did find it on one of my other hard drives, one which had had a copy of XP installed on it at one time, from the same disks I have now...could that work?

regarding partition my drive: my C drive is 100% allocated.  IS there a way to "unallocate" say 2 gigs and then format that as Fat32?  If so, I'd also do that to two of my other hard drives (i have 3 in my pc) allocating say 4gigs from each as FAT32 so I'd have some storage for WIn98 programs.

EDIT:  Okay, the copying of the Config.nt, and also the Autoexec.nt files worked.  Game is installed.  Now the problem is that when I go to start the game is says I need at least 3mb of virtual memory to run.  How do I work around that error cause I have way more than 3mb of hd space for virtual memory.

Im not sure about unallocation, Even if you did allocate another 2Gb for FAT32, you'd need a seperate bootloader like GRUB so that You can boot both XP and 95/98. Honestly, just install VirtualPC 2007. It's about 1/4 the effort that partioning you harddrive will be. Another route you can take is building yourself a retro rig (with a 3Dfx card  Grin Grin) unless you already have one. If you really want to dual boot, then look up a tutorial on GRUB.

I'm not that worried about it really, was just curious.  Anyways I got the game to work but have a new issue.

does anyone know how to get it working now that it is installed?  It keeps coming up saying it needs 3mb of virtual memory to run.  I have way more free hd space than that....
