Alone in the dark - slow video
14.03.05 at 17:56:14

Hi,
i had problems with very slow stuttering videos in aitd4. Because the bink videoplayer plays the videos smoothly i tried updating the binkw32.dll (1.0) in the aitd4 dir with a later one (1.5) from a different game. That works.

Regards,
Andreas

P.S.
Don't forget to drop GLIDE/OGL gamme from 1.3 to 1.0 or less. Otherwise the game looks much to bright what's not good for a horror game!

It seems that i'm really alone in the dark Wink

Adding -altvideo option to launcher.exe as described in the atarisupport faq doesn't help. I really have to use binkw32.dll version 1.5p because the 1.0 Version that came with the came causes the slow video.

Regards,
Andreas

P.S.
That game uses opengl but copying wickedgl or mesafx as opengl32.dll to the dir doesn't work. The game looks for 3dfxvgl in \windows\system first (voodooČ) and if that file is not found then it uses opengl32.dll from \windows\system.

I remember having similar Problems with the Intro of FarCry, after installing a Bink Codec from one of the widespread Codec Packs.

Didn't actually vanish until I uninstalled the whole Codec Pack, not sure if that helps.

Those Codec Packs are a mess. You never get your Windows clean after installing one of those. I only have wmp9, qt651, rp10.5 and the latest regular codecs (indeo, divx, xvid, radium, lame, oggcodecs and ac3filter) for those players. I've also installed the radtools (bink and smacker players) but they neither bring the binkw32.dll nor do they install a ds filter (just ordinary players).

I think that opengl, or the underlying glide is the problem. When i use wickedgl for example the video is totally disorted but the (3d) game menu looks normal. All other bink games i have use ddraw or d3d api and run smoth (especially syberia wich has similar sized videos). When i use rad tools to play the introvideo of aitd4 is runs fine.

Andreas
