Hello,
I have had some time and I have worked to see if really there are some difference talking about speed using the 3rd revision silicion 355-0026-320 against 355-0026-220. The version 320 is used only in the last 6k revision (3700/3900 A). According to Hank this chip can handle speed over 200MHz.
For testing I have used the V4-4500 AGP. It only comes with one chip vsa-100 and therefore I can handle much better the heat than using a V5.
Normally V4 comes with thoshiba tsop sdram, not friendly high speed. It can run 175-180MHz. So, the first I did is remove the tsop and add 4ns memory and upgrade it 32@64Mb. Once done the card already is able to handle speed over 200MHz using stock heatsink. In this case both V4 agp reached same speed stable 200MHz.
17/01/2013Both cards mount the same memory 4ns.
V4-4500 agp comes with 355-0026-220
Unsoldering BGA chip.
I cleaned the bga balls for marking a perfect base for soldering new chip.
New chip VSA-100 355-0026-320 added
Testing the card- Here very scared. I did not know if card will boot up and voila... card did!
Ran Quake III timedemo 1 200MHz.
The cards ready for installing new Heatsink and check speed.
NOTE- Now I need to add a new heatsink in both cards and check if there is or not difference using different rev. My guess is I will get same running speed at same VCore chip. Possibly the 3rd revision silicon is more refined but it will be limited for the Voltage or perhaps the last revision can handle much better the heat.
Best regards,
Oscar.
