ok.reinstalling xp is probably the best thing you can do.make sure to make a CLEAN reinstall,that means:

-boot from the xp cd
-format your harddrive
-install winxp
-instal directx9c
-install the latest via chipset drivers
-install the latest drivers for your onboard graphics
-plug in the voodoo2 (try a different PCI slot)
-install koolsmoky voodoo2 xp driver
-extract the latest original 3dfx glides to your windows\system32 folder,owerwrite old files

install your games,apply the hitman fix,and you should be able to play without crashing Wink

you done a clean reinstall and the problem is still there? wow.have you tried updating your sound drivers? basically,make sure all hardware drivers are up to date.
(I'm starting to run out of ideas here Roll Eyes

)

or perhaps try another OS,like win98se or winME.you dont really need xp anyway (you dont have new hardware in your pc),it would free up some memory,and you would be able to use voodoo2 direct3d as well.I'm pretty sure this would fix that weird error of yours for good..

I think that the problem is the windows xp
I checked my HDD for fizical errors (bad sectors,etc) to
see if such an error is the cause of my problem.
My hdd is fine.No errors detected.
I can play the game without errors or crushing on my
default video card only in D3D mode .In the opengl mode
I have the same problem
I think that the problem is a conflict between the
game's opengl render and the windows Xp.
The guys from Eidos say that the render open gl is an
"unsupported" OpenGl render .

In himan:codename 47 the game runs verry good
in Glide ,Opengl,d3d on my voodoo2

What service pack for winxp do you have
I was unable yet to get the win98se.
I tested the game under win98 (with the voodoo2 driver
for win98,from 3dfx

http://www.falconfly.de/downloads/voodoo2-210.zip

and all the drivers updated (the win98 drivers for the mainboard,chispet,etc)
If a try to play from d3d platform the game will not enter and for opengl I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM
THE SAME ERROR. Roll Eyes

Soon I will get the win98se and I will inform you about the rezults.

Back again.
Win98Se installed.
Directx 9.0c installed.
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.
Rezults from dxdiag:

driver in-use:3dfxzone.it Fastvoodoo2 4.0 Gold Edition
Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 46 (GetDC): HRESULT = 0x88760249 (Can't create DC)

Direct3D 8 test results: All tests were successful.

Direct3D 9 test results: Display driver does not support API (DDI version too low)

Hardware accelerated Direct3D 9+ is not available because the display driver does not support it. You may be able to get a newer driver from the hardware manufacturer.

DirectDraw test results: All tests were successful.

Any ideas ? ???
