Hey guys. Im more or less venting here. But if you have any ideas I would be welcome to hear them. Ive been having so much trouble getting the "network" working on this damn thing. I was able to log onto the internet before when my motherboard had a integrated lan adapter.

Well, Since I swapped out to the kt3 ultra, I installed a generic ethernet card. No dice. It didnt work. It didnt look like it was installing correctly. Well, recently when I set up the computer again, I bought a smc9432tx adapter(name brand?!?!?!). I downloaded the drivers and installed it. Everything seems to be working fine. Status lights on card are on. But, windows network does NOTHING! It acts as if there is no card there whatsoever.

When I click on network neighborhood, it says "unable to browse network"! what the hell?!?! Ive never had a windows install act this way. The card shows up under control panel/network. But it looks as if windows doesnt even try to access anything(if that makes sense). Ive tried winsockfix etc etc. Ive made sure that winsock, winsock32 are installed.

It seems like there is something almost just "turned off" I sat lastnight for over 4 hours with this damn thing! Maybe its because its hooked up to a router, maybe its the drivers from the other card, maybe it could be this or that or this or that??? AARRGGHHH.

Im in the process of installed the necesary files on the laptop to use it for quake online. Which is the only real reason I wanted to get the computer online. I just have to see if I can get used to using a mouse as a controler. Or maybe I can setup the sidewinder. Man. I need to take a nap.    Angry

Have you checked to see if the card is getting any IP address information ?
start>run>winipcfg

I tried that. It says its unable to read ip configuration error.

Today I was trying to setup  the laptop for quaking online   Wink
It seems to be working pretty well. Played yesterday for an hour or so. Just like it used to be. Except for all the stupid runes(runequake). haha. I just need to get threewave installed on this thing and i should be good to go.

I might be better off like that anyways. That way Ill keep the "retro rig" off the net. I know that at one point  before when I could browse the net on it, I ended up getting some sort of spyware that screwed up the game leadfoot. Kept getting a multiple etrace error. There was a hacked file in windows sytem dir

Anyways, thanks for the help though.   Smiley

Possible card installation problem, if I remember correctly you need a software app with the card to get it to run on win98 as it doesn't natively support wireless.
