@Patience is correct!
You'll have to get the DOOM3 V2 1.0 patch and a Voodoo 2 card...at the very least!
It simply won't work on a Voodoo 1!

Uhm, if you're in the process of buying a videocard for Doom 3 you might want to buy a newer card like a ATi Radeon 9600 128MB.
Does the rest of your system meet the minimum requirements for Doom 3?

I would check that your system specs are up to running the program as the Doom3 patch is unsupported and requires a level of practical computer knowledge you may not have.
Not ment as an insult, but if your unaware what a 9600 is then chances are the Doom3 patch instructions will be difficult to follow since the they are somewhat technical in nature.

You might want to try to get a good card on eBay. But again, you need to know how it works!

Okay, to make things clear :
Doom3 will
not
run on your Voodoo1.
In order to play it, you will
have
to upgrade to a more current Video Hardware at least.
To check your System specs, I recommend downloading and running a SysInfo Utility :
http://www.lavalys.com/
After having checked the System, you will
have
to rely on an expert for
on-site
upgrading anyway, likely no Forum will
safely
get you through all steps needed to perform these Upgrades.

I don't know you, but trying to run Doom III with a single or double Voodoo2 is the really last thing I'd do! Even more if it's somebody who doesn't use a PC 4 hours a day like me (us) and might not feel confident about tweaking and manipulating hardware. I would more go for a new or used card (eBay in that case), but again it depends on your PC configuration.
Post some screenshots of the specifications shown by this program (press the "Print" key on your keyboard and then go open Paint in start - programs - accessories then choose Paste in the menu). That should help us see what the best solution for you would be.

Well, that machine is
far
below specifications to run Doom3 by any means.
Time to buy a new machine, I'm afraid there's no other Solution in this case.
By on-site help I mean competent folks in your neighbourhood, that can come around if you need anything done on your machine.
Something like an AthlonXP 2600+ (or higher), a Radeon 9700 (or higher), Surround Soundcard + Speaker System and minimum 512MB RAM (768MB is better, 1GB is perfect) is roughly something to strive for when you think Doom3 and a perfect experience.

Paul,
Your machine is fine for checking email, basic word processing and cruising on the internet but for serious gaming like Doom3, it's not going to do the job. The difference between Doom 1 & 2 to Doom 3 is the difference between night and day.
I usually try to keep people in their same box and add memory, bigger hard drive, and a faster Video card but if your looking forward to playing Doom3 I think it would be in your best interest to replace the system.
Once you see Doom3 on a 9700 or better, you'll be glad you did (upgrade that is). Gaming and Video cards have come a long way since GLDoom 1 & 2 on a 4 MB voodoo 1 card. I still have a couple of V1 cards, one I'm using on a PIII 500 for older games like Doom 1 & 2, Descent 1 & 2, Need for Speed II SE, GLQuake and Quake2

Let's say that in order to play Doom III decently, you'll have to spend
at least
1300€-1500€. I hope you didn't think you'll just need some 100€, because that won't be enough, really.
Or you can always buy a GameCube to play new games... Okay, I shut up.

Depends on where he lives, I could get a decent gaming machine around here for about 900-1000 Euro.
