Quantum 3D X-24 question
01.10.04 at 01:23:47
I have a Quantum 3D X-24, but retired it back to its box due to overheating problems. I was told by one of my co-workers earlier today that he was pretty sure that Quantum 3D had released the X-24 with a cooling fan toward the end of the cards production life.
I have not found any references to this in a few web searchs. Did they indeed install a cooling fan at some point and if so are the fan equipted X-24 cards hard to come by?
Thanks

I have heard of it too but think it might be a rumor only, where would it be installed and not interfere with items in the adjacent PCI slot?

Guess what? It's true, Quantum3d did have a fan setup for the X-24's.
=)
I'm working on it..

One of the main reasons that Quantum3D gave up on the consumer graphics card market was the overheating problems of the X-24. They did indeed release a card with a fan fitted on the end blowing down the gap between the boards. But it was too little too late.
The usual solution is to do what I did with my X-24 (and still do with my 200SBi). That is to fit a "card cooler". These are just a fan (or fans) fitted to an arm that attaches to where the card securing screws are on the computer case. Look here -

I use the 2-52 cooler on an arm that I've extended with a bit of alloy by about six inches. This will blow away all those overheating blues!

Actually they made it clear why they left the consumer end of the pool- 6 month product cycles make it difficult to make money on razor thin margins.
Some people have problems telling the difference between a quality part and service and bargin bin priced generic boards with no support.

Yeah, well those 6-month-product-cycles is another thing we can "thank" nVidia for.
And in case you didn't get it: I was being sarcastic
