Slashdot - 3dfx' Voodoo5 6000 Still Alive:

Pretty interesting to read what people thought back then....

BTW - I found that article because google is awesome:

"In honor of our 10th birthday, we've brought back our oldest available index. Take a look back at Google in January 2001."

This is why you should not mix drinking heavily and bidding on eBay.
[this was an old screenshot when I won my first v4 4500 PCI... needless to say it was the first one I had ever seen in the 8 months I had been collecting Smiley ]

I have owned 6-7 boxed 3dfx Voodoo2 1000's in my life.  I have never seen this sheet in any of them except for in one I just got.  I could not see anything different.. anyone have any ideas what they were referring to as a "different look"?

Well keeping in mind that before the V2 1000, 3dfx did not offer any products of their own only chips and some reference boards. So i guess this is the STB part saying that the Black Magic has a different look as a package and a different name to symbolize the merger.
Just my opinion on the matter.

Thanks for the link razrx!  That's what I have been seeing but I was unsure if that is what everyone else uses and whether or not it is the best for that kind of thing.

I will let you know how this stuff works Smiley -

Well from my own experience i can say the stuff works very well as do most Artic Silver products.
You just have to take into account the fact that the chemical reaction happens very fast 4min max so you also need to be fast and apply it before it's no longer putty. More useful info in the instructions manual.

It's funny, how I keep the front page with the music open when I'm browsing, it's actually quite cool when the music starts, with all the game sounds in it. Smiley

Quick question: will Canopus Pure 3D II cards function ok without a fan?  Or will they start on fire? I recently purchased 2 for a SLI setup and one of the cards does not have the fan...

The Canopus V2s should be fine without the fans.  However, they just don't look complete without them.  It is possible to duplicate the original fans using parts from Digikey or Frys.  When I scored my first SLI pair last year, one of the fans was shot.  I ordered new Sunon fans from digikey.  The trick is to find new connectors that match those that are on card.  I couldn't find them anywhere, so I performed surgical to attached the connectors from the old fans to the new ones.  Since you don't have any of the parts to attach the fan, you will need to get nylon spacers, nuts, and bolts.  All can be found on the Digikey site pretty easily.  With postage, you are probably looking at ~$15 to get the fan working.

The alternative cooling solution that is equally cool would be a pair of the special Tennmax V2 stealth coolers for the Canopus card.  Good luck finding one of those in the wild.
