What sound system do you have?

We all know about your craze for voodoo cards, but what about sound systems?

I have a Hercules Fortissimo 7.1 card, with a Yamaha 7.1 speaker setup for games/movies,
a Hercules DigiFire 7.1 for the firewire ports (yeah, i keep a second sound card just for firewire Tongue),
And the onboard AC`97 for mp3 output to my stereo system (Panasonic, 2800watt).

Your turn Smiley

I had two SB128 die on me  Grin
and they sounded the same as cheap integrated sound or my old SB vibra 16.

Now I have a SB Live 5.1 digital, the sound is clearly better

it's plugged on a great 30+ year-old japanese ampli 8)
with a recent (2 year old) pair of JVC speaker (2x85W RMS)

I paid it 30 francs ( less than 5 € Grin ). what do you think about it? (it seems to be 2x18W, but what is "46W music power")

Geez, what were you doing with them? Shocked

Hammer and chisel anyone? ???

I've had mine for more than five years and it's worked FLAWLESSLY! Grin

Sure it's not the best for sound quality, but it IS better than those crappy AC97 integrated pieces of horse manure! Wink

Well, I used to have a wonderful 500 watt 4.1 Sony sound system, absolutely amazing sound in my little tiny room, but I blew my speakers from that showing off one day. Now I've got a pair of 20w Zenith Allegro speakers running off the Sony amp, I can't push the volume higher than 3 without serious distortion  Tongue Oh yeah, and my sound card is a Philips SonicEdge 5.1, which works well enough for the money.

Who says AC'97 is crappy, don't know what they are saying. Perhaps they have seen it working with the non-WDM drivers. I know a bunch of CMI8338 sound cards that really fit your description, as they are phisically having flaws in desing, no matter what drivers you are using. I would say that AC'97, if configured at it's best, would be near a Creative Audigy board (not for accessories).

And then again, for comparison, if Voodoo cards can't show newer games, it's not the videocards to blame for first, but the development of drivers and the games themselves. Same thing applies to sound cards. Drivers are almost crucial for performance and compatibility, sometimes more than the chips themselves.

Turtle Beach Santa Cruz / Videologic SonicFury with auxillary port, running on Cambridge SoundWorks 4.1 speakers with woof-woofer. Wink

These speakers are ace, I used to use them with the SBLive! Value as I bought them both together, but I wasn't impressed with the Live! and upgraded to current.

Only thing is, these speakers have a tendancy to pick up foreign radio signals such as French radio stations. They do this on their own accord!  Undecided

Furthest they've managed to pick up is Israel Shocked, all the way from sunny GB! 8)
