THQ Sinistar Unleashed
03.05.04 at 00:38:53

Since a number of people have expressed an interest in compiling a list of Glide games, I thought I would share some specific information on a few of the more obscure Glide games that I own.  Please do the same for games that you have.

The second game that I will spotlight is the 1999 title Sinistar Unleashed published by THQ.  This space arcade game draws from the storyline used in the Williams arcade game Sinistar from the early 1980s although the appearance of the two games is quite different.  Digital Eclipse released PC ports of the original Sinistar and other Williams games (Defender, Robotron, Joust, Defender II, and Bubbles) in the compilation CD-ROM "Williams Arcade Classics" which was published in 1996.  Sinistar Unleashed has gorgeous graphics, although a number of reviewers criticized the game for being too short or repetitive.

According to the readme.txt file:

If you have a 3dfx board, choose "3dfx Voodoo" for your setting. Sinistar:
Unleashed is optimized for Glide.

The English FAQ indicates the following:

Why do things sometimes look funny when I run my Voodoo Board under Direct3D?

Textures sometimes display incorrectly when you run any Voodoo board (Voodoo Graphics, Voodoo2, Voodoo Banshee, Voodoo3) using Direct3D drivers. The solution is to use the 3dfx Glide drivers instead of Direct3D. See the Video Mode Selector section on how to change your drivers setting.

What 3D Chipsets and Drivers have been tested with the game?
