Is my V5 5500 dying?
11.09.11 at 10:23:02

Hi there, yesterday when running UT99 with my Voodoo 5 5500 AGP I noticed, that the fps is lower than usual. I restarted the game but it didn't help. Then I took a look at the 3dfx hub and noticed, that I can't set AA to 4x. I'm almost sure I already read somewhere, that this means, that one of the chips is dead. Then I restarted the rig and voila, 4xAA is available again. I run UT99 and the fps was again normal.
Today I wanted to play UT99 again and again, the fps was lower and I could set only 2xAA in 3dfx hub. I did a restart, but it helped only after fifth time. So yeah, we can see here some weird randomness.
Does all this mean that one of the chips is dying and I should start looking for another 5500?

I think that it's just a driver issue  Wink

If you are using fans (or some sort of active cooling) on the card, I would check to make sure they are functioning properly and that fan power connectors are firmly attached.
