Agree, is amazing when checking open die under microscope  you see such sweet thing but really is not the only secret. In each chip family there are others secret hidden. For example in VSA-101, VSA-100, AVENGER... With time and If I find the manner I will show them. I need to find a manner to take out 'graphite' cover die.

Now everyone knows another 3Dfx secret hidden in  die chip. Who can arrive at die chip and with an accurate microscope will be to able to find it. Smiley

do you mean that the big chip we all now as the avenger is actually not much more then a cover for a much smaller die??

if so, I can open one up and see if I get anything....

Looking under the VSA-100 an 101 would be awesome, maybe find a dead card to kindly 'donate' a chip to the cause haha.

Good job Oscar! Would also love to see what's inside every other 3dfx-chip Wink.

Slightly offtopic but if someone is interested in 'die'-shots, but then for CPU's: check out CPU-World.com - My first attempts to take die shots or CPU-World.com - Some shots. Plenty of nice pictures! Smiley

Hello,

I actually have some chips decapped, V2 BR and CH, V3, VSA-100. Now I need to find the manner to take out the graphite for VSA-101 and look for a good microscope connected a LCD for taking PICS.

----------

Today will be last day for Banshee family. I still have here some nice samples but I guess people must be little tired about Banshee cards. I will update my site www.3Dfx.es with all pictures and info for each family.

I continue with Banshee green PCB with his partner. As usual I love proto cards with engineering tag. It makes the card very special with a lot history behind.

#DAY 10
AGP - ASSY 600-0043-01 / DATE CODE 3598
PCI - ASSY 600-0033-03 / DATE CODE 3598

...

Regards,
Oscar.

I actually like the old pre-STB PCB design as well, pity 3dfx purchased them. Things might have been different.

Looking forward to see the other photo's on your site.

I have a 'brother card' of ASSY 600-0043-01. Yours indicates PCB A346, mine is as following:
PCB # A 553
Pass short
ROM V10001A.ET
Pass speedy & unreal
Special DRAM bios
loaded 9/18/98

SGRAM AGP 0043-01

Agree. I think the Banshee-like style looks more true 3Dfx.

I also love old PCB style. It is still present on V3 reference board but vanish with V3 commercial cards.

@Thandor, upload some PIC from your Banshee board.
