Miro Voodoo issues
18.09.08 at 10:01:03

I'm trying to set up my Miro Highscore3D into my Win98SE PC.  Windows auto detected the card and installed the drivers.  I have tried both the latest offcial and unofficial drivers.  As soon as the voodoo graphics should kick in, I get this:

...

and the correct audio is playing in the background....

Windows reports no issues with the card.

The same result screen occurs when I try Descent2, UT-GOTY, Whiplash.

I have tried different PCI slots and I've taken out one of two sticks of 512MB ram.  Can some one please help?

=\  ok, I will see.  I think my brother has a Diamond V1 laying around.

Do you know what the website is for Miro?  I visited it once, but that was a while ago.

Here ou can find the miro HighScore drivers
http://www.mirosupport.de/
Also you can try testing the card without the cable connecting it to the 2d card and see if it outputs correctly. Also you should do a clean-up of drivers for the V1 because sometimes they overlap. Also you can install win2k and install the last reference 3dfx V1 drivers for win2k. I worked for me...

its called HiScore
the Voodoo Graphics board 100% identical to the Canopus Pure3D
also the Miro V2.10 drivers works with the Miro V2 AND V1 boards

Ok, so before swapping out V1 cards, I went to the mirosupport.de webpage (thanks G1nX!!!) and downloaded the drivers.

I deleted the Voodoo Graphics adapter in Win98SE and ADDed NEW HARDWARE.  It found the HISCORE card and I pointed the installer to the Miro files and the program installed fine.  Windows reports the card is functioning properly.

I'm still getting the garbled screen as before.   I think I covered removal of the old drivers.  As for Win2K, this machine is for DOS/9x games only, so I need something that works in those environments...

If it doesn't work in DOS - it "might" be bad RAM on the card... Undecided

I'm almost 100% sure that you have a bad card and the problem is a faulty TMU or FB chip (could be some broken pins) or some missing traces on the PCB. If there was only a memory module, then you should be seeing almost ok, but with corrupted textures or dots over image.

there is still the roumor that some old voodoos dont work on 133MHz FSB
and i know that all PCI v1 and V2 dont work on my K7 system (agp v2 run fine)
give 100MHz FSB a try

Is there anyway to fix the issue if this is the case?

@exxe - I tried running the PIII @ 1050MHz (100MHz bus), but I still get the same issue.

@G1nX - how do you do this? "Also you can try testing the card without the cable connecting it to the 2d card and see if it outputs correctly."  what what should I be seeing?

Well you can use a 2 input monitor use the 1st input for the 2D card and when the 3d application calls for glide just switch to 2nd input that is connected to the v1 card. Or simply just switch the monitor cable from the 2d card to the v1 card when the 3d application is running.
Also exxe has point in that V1 cards tend to be picky on running on newer systems. Same goes for Voodoo Rush & Voodoo2 cards. My suggestion is to use an older system at core you can have a i440bx and use a variety of cpu's with 66 or 100mhz bus to get these cards to work properly.
As for sw you can have a dual boot win98 and win2k and with the proper drivers enjoy a lot of oldies but goldies games.

Is there a software program that can test your voodoo card to tell you if it's good or not?

I bought a Pure3D card today, Windows sees it and installs the drivers for it, but when I try to run Descent2 in 3dfx or UT-GOTY with the 3dfx card either the window or the computer locks up.   Undecided

I'm not having any luck with Voodoo 1s....  Although the guy that sold the card to me was holding the bare card as he walked across the parking lot....  maybe the ram is messed up too like the Miro card?

Does anyone know of a testing program that you can run diagnostics on your Voodoo1?

hmmm.....
So I had a spare Duron 800MHz show up and I tested the Pure3D card.  It worked!!!  Well, it worked with Unreal Tournament GOTY and Descent 2 - d2_3dfx patch.  Whew!  So I'm guessing that my P3 setup is too new for the Pure3D card....  So now I'm after an AMD 1400 Athlon system, probably using an EPoX motherboard....

I haven't tested the HiScore3D card in the Duron 800MHz (Asus A7V133 mobo)system, but I'm assuming it will work too.  Unfortunately the A7V133 doesn't have any ISA slots.

I did learn some things though....  that's a plus.

I will report back once I get an AMD board/CPU installed.  Smiley

@PS47 - Do you remember what motherboard was or motherboard manufacturer was?  I'll steer clear of those boards.
