PSP2TV Review!
12.04.06 at 23:05:43

Shocked===WARNING===WARNING===WARNING=== Shocked
After testing the PSP2TV for FOUR days - the MOD board broke!!! Angry

Absolutely nothing wrong with the install or my modding skills (I've modded countless systems before without a hitch) - the only thing to fault is build quality! Angry

Or rather a TOTAL LACK thereof... Angry Angry

The Extra edge connector on the (VERY flimsy) ribbon cable 'thingy' that fits inside of the PSP basically snapped off - BY ITSELF [I kid you not - it was inside the PSP when it came loose!] Roll Eyes Tongue

So even though it still displayed a T.V. picture, the screen on the PSP itself was blank (due to the loose connector). Tongue

So as an updated summary I'd say to AVOID THIS PRODUCT AT ALL COSTS! Angry

Don't get me wrong, it's a GREAT idea - just the build quality leads to a device lifespan akin to that of a Mayfly. Undecided

Needless to say my PSP is back with all it's original trimmings and works fine! Grin

Remember folks - modders test these products so you don't have to! (and don't end up wasting your cash on them!)

END OF LINE 8)
=======================================

Well, just laid my hands on one of these swanky little MOD boards for my PSP! Grin

There are good points and bad points, but it's a ratio of 90% good to 10% bad... Wink

The most unusual thing is playing PSP games on a 21" telly! VERY WEIRD! But cool at the same time... 8)

INSTALLATION
==========

First off I'd say to any modder considering getting one of these is that whilst you are fitting the thing - BE CAREFUL!!! Shocked

Both the PSP and the PSP2TV MOD are extremely fragile! Undecided

Take your time and follow instructions and you should be fine! Wink

Oh and the publicity "installed in 15 mins" is a lot of BULL! Took me 3 hours to get it installed 90% perfect...which brings us to the summary! Roll Eyes

GOOD BITS 8)
========

# PSP games on a real T.V. rather than a teeny screen!
# Docking station functionality - dock to use it on T.V., undock to go mobile!
# PSP through your HiFi speakers - WHEEE!
# Use a PSX / PS2 pad for control.
# Ridge Racers on a big screen!

BAD BITS Angry
======

# Price - around £60 (I was lucky and got it second hand on eBay for £40)
# Connections - only 'Composite AV' or S-Video
# HARD to install - can be fiddly at best [more on this later]
# Twitchy analog stick compatibility - the PSX pad analog stick is not as sensitive as the PSP Analog knob...this means you have to push HARD in any direction for games that require precise movement (Prince of Persia Revelations). [this is why it's only 90% perfect] Strangely though it works perfectly in Ridge Racers?

TIPS Wink
===

When installing be very mindful of the following... Tongue

1. The PSP's LCD screen has 2 ribbon cables...
The first one is large and easy to clip / unclip. But the second one is teeny and the clip on the socket is EXTREMELY fragile! (the clip broke on my small ribbon cable, but the socket is VERY tight, so the ribbon cable isn't even loose!)
2. Be careful of the power switch - it's easy to snap it off if you're not careful!
3. The 'new' faceplate isn't a total perfect fit, it's REALLY close, but no cigar. This results in the -> directional pad button and the SQUARE button not pressing properly...
some electrical tape, four layers thick and cut into small squares on the underside of these buttons will fix this!

Other than that, the MOD obviously voids your warranty (well DUH!) - but who cares when it's this KEWL! 8)

By the way, if anyone knows of a forum thread on ANY forum that has a solution for the analog stick 'twicthiness'...then post in this thread. Wink

It MAY be fixed with a bit of extra pressure on the contacts that connect the analog pad 'points' on the mainboard to the PSP2TV...that's my guess anyhow... Tongue

PHEW! Enough already! Shocked

PEACE! 8)

==EDIT==

The PSP2TV is available HERE: -

http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=365&products_id=7749&;

This is the NTSC version, but there's also a PAL variant (mine is the NTSC one).

==EDIT 2==

Pictures of the install procedure and the (VERY) electronically crammed docking station are also available at Lik-Sang's website HERE: -
