Lost Green VGA Signal Repair Voodoo 5 5500 PCI MAC

I have a Voodoo 5 5500 MAC PCI that has a VGA port with a non-functioning (or extremely weak) green signal. Its DVI port outputs just fine, so I think it is likely that there is a fault somewhere in the green signal, such as a dead resistor or capacitator. Can anyone point me in the direction of instructions to isolate or fix the problem?

I have used two different monitors, one a TFT with a VGA/DVI-I cable, the second was a true CRT with its own cable. I have used some rubbing alcohol to clean the board, no change. The fans seem to work. I flashed the BIOS with a PC bios, but it appeared to work after that. [email][/email]

I fixed an old GeForce card where the VGA port was actually SLACK!!! But if it's not, then try taking some hi-res photos of the card... Maybe we can play "spot the f***ed-up track"... ...worth a shot!

It is the only component that comes in a three set. Maybe replacing it, if I figure out what it is, may work.

Yup this is most likely the cause of your problem. Undecided

The missing component is an SMT EMI Filter.
(since there are only THREE of them, we can assume they connect the R,G,B lines for your VGA socket - and your G line has one missing or damaged) Roll Eyes

I did a bit of Googling... Wink

Confirmed that label FL=Filter:

Thank you, I am much obliged. However, the Voodoo 5 5500 AGP board does not contain such filters anywhere on the board. (The Voodoo 5 5500 PCI PC version also contains them.) Perhaps they were designed to combat electrical interference coming from the PCI bus, which is shared with other devices. The AGP bus is not shared at all of course.

In my opinion and cause you tell, the DVI is working properly there can be a problem with the RAMDAC itself, or somewhere on the "way" from the RAMDAC to the D-Sub connector.

Cause the DVI (sort of) reads the Picture directly out of the memory and the RAMDAC (Random Access Memory Digital Analog Converter) as it's called convert it, this might be the problem Huh

voodooban_cn YaBB Newbies Offline I love 3dfx Posts: 33 shang hai, China Gender:	Re: Lost Green VGA Signal Repair Voodoo 5 5500 PCI MAC Reply #7 - 22.11.10 at 10:38:53 First check your D-SUB.and then you need to check the Lane of GREEN siginal,especially the low pass filter(inductor,capacitor and resistor) near the connector.I had refixed my VP560 once by change the inductor in LPF,the broken inductor made the Lane open.
