hello, i am resetting up an older pc that i acquired. an asus branded one with a p3c2000 mobo, slot 1 500 mhzz plll, and a velocity 100 3dfx card. i have heard that these cards were designed to run directx6, which ms no longer provides. i have found a couple instances of dx6 on some old game demo discs i have, but one is 86 files, 6.89 mb, and the other is 71 files, 4.73 mb. and i see the one on your site is different also, 5.xx mb. do you know what the differences are? have the two game disc versions been altered for a specific game? is there a generic version? will the one on your site, which says it's for voodoo3, run on the velocity 100 card? and i heard that you must install dx6 on top of dx5 in order for it to work. is that so? and what about later versions of dx, like 7,8, 0r 9.can they be used? i want to use this machine for gaming and general surfing and such. any advice? thanks

Except for isolated cases, you can safely install the latest Version of DirectX.

Of course, you can always stick to a suitable (lower) Version of DirectX that you like.

All DirectX Versions I know of are stand-alone Installers, so you don't even need a previous version of DirectX Installed.

If you encounter different Versions, just compare the File dates and select the newest.
The difference could be the one between DirectX 6.0 and 6.1, for example...
