64 megs on V5.......
01.12.06 at 19:35:34

I know this has been talked about to death but I don't remember hearing an outcome for this. Is it posiable for someone to resolder chips on the V5 to make it a 128 meg card? Would the two VSA chips even see it? I know someone upgrade a V4 to 64 megs and had it work, what about the V5's? Just a question.

V5's need some additional transistors or so for them to see the extra RAM.

And the RAM is slow; very slow SDRAM. It could be a better idea to remove the SDRAM and resolder DDR ram into it... But it's one hell of a job...

Uhm, a VSA-100 does not support DDR-SDRAM. So that's a stupid idea.

Also, there is 3.3ns SDR-SDRAM available (though hard to get) which can do it's job on more than 300MHz. Unfortunately, the VSA-100 processor is not such a speedy fellow; 220MHz is about the regular maximum for those chips.

I think there were some experiments with VSA-101 and DDR RAM.

Never put hands on a finished one myself (except the 64bit Voodoo4-2 4200), but technically it should work - only problem being the building with the needed precision and knowhow required.

Yeah, If I'm not mistaking, Gary is trying to turn one of his VSA-101 boards into a monster Tongue
