3D Blaster Banshee: Windows protection error.
24.11.13 at 20:08:53

I tried 2 different drivers (Win98SE) to use with this 3D Blaster Banshee PCI i found (original Creative drivers, and Raziel's) and both give me this error:
Quote:
While initializing device CONFIGMG:
Windows Protection Error. You need to restart your computer.

I tried many ways but it doesn't seem to work...though it does detect the card  and show "Creative 3D Blaster Banshee 16mb SDRAM" at boot-up.

Is this card dead or something?

PCI videocards can make some problems, I had similar problems with some TNT PCI cards, it's a incompatibity with the motherboard.

Try to boot with another videocard and uninstall all banshee drivers, then start again with the banshee pci card and see if it boots. If it boots it's ok, but then install the drivers, you might get the problem after that.

well it's true that the board is pretty cheap, it's an Asus MEW-AM (it was inside a HP build i believe), no AGP, and seem to lack some features as well, like no ACPI for a regular Windows 2000 SP4 installation...

The included Banshee drivers seem to work on Windows 2000, but i have to select one of the "2"(?) Banshee in the setup program (where there's one). I tried updating the drivers, and it bugged Windows...

So i might try with another board, yeah...

Try installing the motherboard drivers first and then the Banshee drivers (Or vice-versa in case it doesn't work).

Windows 2000's default Banshee driver seemed to work, but updating the drivers just screw it up.

Now i have problems on this other board (Asus P2B) installing Windows 2000, probably because the board wasn't made for it?

The Banshee's drivers seem to have problems in Windows 98...i'll have to try again on another board, i have a MSI MS-6156VA here.
