New SAGE driver for 3DFX cards!!!
24.12.05 at 14:55:08

Copy and paste from 3dfxzone.it:

SAGE is a new OpenGL driver from our Daniel Borca: its code is not based on Mesa nor it is based on OpenGL Sample Implementation code but it just reflects a idea of author about implementing a clean vertex engine. This project was written completely on a Slackware Linux machine, but there is a Windows version available too.

These are the main functionalities:

    * Fast 3DNow! and SSE support;
    * Texture rescaling for cards that don't support large textures;
    * Vertex buffers support;
    * EXT_texture_env_combine emulation for cards that don't support it.

So the goal of SAGE OpenGL driver is to extend old hardware compatibility, like 3dfx Voodoo2 card, with some newer OpenGL games and to improve OpenGL rendering of last 3dfx cards like Voodoo4/5 series. We have tested Unreal Tournament for Windows via OpenGL with this new opengl32.dll library using a 3dfx Voodoo5 6000 card: well, running the game at 32 bit color depth we got a superior image quality than by GLide mode with a small (and acceptable) frames fall.

SAGE supports these 3dfx cards: Voodoo Graphics, Voodoo Rush, Voodoo2, Voodoo Banshee, Voodoo3, Voodoo4 and Voodoo5. Just you try it and report your feedback in our forums to allow us new improvements and software updates.

Good luck, 3dfx users.

Just an example by a 3dfxzone user with Voodoo 5 5500 (I don't know resolution and cpu):

Quake III map Q3CTF2 without SAGE --> 26/56 fps

Quake III map Q3CTF2 with SAGE --> 60/99 fps

SAGE seems to be very fast, Daniel Borca is always the best, yeah!Cheesy

SAGE driver has to be used like MesaFX (don't remove Amigamerlin), just put opengl32.dll and dxtn.dll in the game folder, try with and without SAGE and post your comment. Smiley

I tried CODMP Brecourt Timedemo.

With sage + dxtn I get 12.2fps. with MesaFX more than 16fps

(1024x768, everything maxed, but texture and character details @ high. System: XP@2.4GHz, Voodoo5 PCI@178MHz)

I'm confused. What OS does this driver work on? Does it work with Voodoo 3500 tv cards? Do you have to have other 3rd party drivers installed at the same time? If so, running on a PIII with Win98se using the latest microsoft officially supported drivers, how would I go about installing this? Does it work on XP too?

SAGE driver is like MesaFX, you can use it in 98, ME, 2000, XP.

SAGE don't replace your actually driver set, it must be extracted in the main folder (main .exe folder) of game or application you want test, that's all.
