Typical problems with e-mail viruses...

Well, then you're lucky.

I always wonder how my EMail address manages to get into so many Browser Caches or Address Books Tongue

The infected Mails currently come in at a rate of ~5 Mails per Minute (!)

On the other side, that also means that alot of those are being sent with my EMail address faked & abused (which is a nasty thing all modern Worms do) Angry

Luckily, I can filter them out before having to download
them (Mailwasher is a really nice Tool Grin ).

Just imagine having to download 2000 Emails a 100kB per day on 56k, just to get the Inbox Clean Lips Sealed
Now that would be bad...

Maybe your e-mail address is available with ease on a search engine... 7 results show your e-mail. This might be a more than interesting place for "bombing e-mails" to arrive. More, if there are tons of users who use Outlook, then some of them are having (or haved in the past), a specific type of virus, who spreads by copying, and sending across everywhere, or whth every computer virused, your e-mail along with others.

Problems with the security of e-mail Address Book are notorious for their lack of security, and because of the ease by which the scripts can enter and steal the whole address book. If noone of your friends, or of the persons who ever write to you would use address books (Outlook or else), they would open a text file from they're computer each time they send a message, you wouldn't receive unsolicited mail so frequently.

So, the main problem stands in the level of ignorance and incompetance or unawareness of users using e-mail services, not been aware of the potential danger, and insecurity of such activities...

How many of you think at this problem in a serious way, and are aware of the potential danger of using Address Books from Outlook or other program, rather than opening, when needed a plain, safe document (text) keeped in a directory inside c:\My documents for example...

Hmmm...

I know my activities on NewsGroups were and are a Source of Spam Mails, but these really are neglectable.

The fact that the Worm harvests its EMail Address only from local Internet Caches and Address Books was what made me wonder (?)

I reckon not everybody was manually searching for my EMail, and the 3dfx Archive was stripped of all machine-/spider-/bot- readable EMail Addresses many month ago (?)

Anyway, almost 5000 Mails within the last 3 days Tongue

Let's just hope the infected machines get cleaned up sometime soon, so the EMail-Flooding is over Lips Sealed

PS.
On a lighter side of things, I found out my Mailbox can handle upto 5000Mails worth a ~400 MB of data Grin

The problem with the e-mail address book was more than dangerous, since you can receive tons of e-mails just because most don't think there could be a virus in the attachement, and the addresses are send to others as quickly as the virus runs.

When people will require something like a certificate to prove they can use things as a e-mail address book, they should activate one. Otherwise you will receive 10000 or more, just because others don't care...
