SYSTEM SHOCK 2 / Voodoo3
12.01.05 at 03:22:39

It was a long time when I posted "game review" at Falconfly forum, but I'm back again.

I played this fantastic game these days again (I finished it first time 3 years ago), and I couldn't wait to share the impressions with all you 3dfx fans.  Grin

SYSTEM SHOCK [1CD]

Even after 4+ years this game looks beautiful. It is (VERY) playable at Voodoo3 at maximum resolution ( 1024x768 )! Textures are juicy and very correct even theese days.. Panels, computers, hacking stuff - just beautiful. Of course forget HL, or Doom3 - there cannot be compared with this game in graphic quality. BUT!!... As I played it in past few weeks, I can tell you something. This game blows away all these 2004 blockbaster games in one aspect. FEAR.
Oh my god, you gonna "sh.t your pants". This game is the biggist "virtual horror creator" ever. Forget all those doom freaks, and imagine that every 5 meters you are progresing in game - you fear more.  I saved status at "every 30 seconds". (Just try to play it at hard level)
Of course the game engine was a bit old even then (1999. when game released), and enemy model are bit low-low-poly. It using improved Thief engine so its full of sneeking all the time! But if I have to give the 6 of 10 to graphics.. I'm sure gonna give it "14 of 10" for "unique filling", coz this game deserve it!!! (And jus hear background music and sound FX... Man...)

Please try this game (if you allready didn't), and prepare for the SHOCK! (Your Voodoo'z deserve it)

:rating: [10/10]

p.s. Similar games:
(also fantastic) System Shock (1) - DOS game
Deus Ex (1, and much worse Deus Ex2) - Win game

1) Agree with you 100% SS2 has a real fear factor going for it and they keep cranking it up as you progress. Id should have played this game before making DOOM3 and studied how it was done, some really tense moments! I'm going to have this loaded up on the new V6K machine as soon as the rest of the parts come in.

2) There is a website with upgraded polygon models for the game!!! I can't remember the name but a quick google search should show it up, they looked great!

@dlc,

I also agree with you 100%, I personally would put it in the top 5 pc games I've ever played.

1024 X 768 with 4XFSAA on my 5500 @ highest game settings + sound volume crancked = Awesome gaming experience  Grin

It's a matter of taste, but I also really really like both Soldier of Fortune games 1 & 2  8)

The "enhanced" textures for the game are available here-
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/etienne.aubert/sshock/sshock_rebirth.htm
They are better (i.e. more detailed) but they change the character of some of the creatures to an extent.  I prefer them but your mileage may vary.  Wink

System Shock 2 was a great game.  The original System Shock was my first really transformational PC game experience.  System Shock 1 remains my favourite computer game of all time.  I still play it from time to time.

Great review dlc!  Thank you.

To gdonovan & voodoo5500:
Thanx guys, I'm glad you are agree with me!

To voodoo5500:
Yes Soldier of Fortune 1 & 2 were very, very  good games too (especialy 1st, because some of engine inovations, that never were seen befor that game). But there was one thing in SoF1, that made me angry - incorect "political" background refering my country (Serbia) in mission in Kosovo&Metohia. But still game was superb.

To procerus:
I'm glad you like my little review. I'm gonna write few neew ones soon,  for some games I played these days too.
And thanx VERY MUCH for this "enhanced textures" link.. I didn't knew that people aroun the world are making such stuff. Fantastic  Wink

p.s. I downloaded "enhanced txtures" for SS2, and thay look superb. Do you know about simmilar stuff for other (good) games?!
